Janice Anita Knox (nee Richardson) was born in Bridgetown, Barbados on January 7, 1942. The daughter of Frederick and Viola Richardson, Anita spent her childhood on the tropical island with her four siblings Maureen, Tony, Peter and Fleurette. She first attended St.Gabriel's School in St.Michael, and then the historic Christ Church Girls Foundation School. A top student, she developed a love for literature and history that stayed with her her whole life.

Her natural beauty and poise made her the perfect candidate for Carnival Queen and modelling ventures that often landed her in the local papers. Like many others from that generation, she made her way to England in her early twenties. Her secretarial work eventually brought her across the sea to Montreal and then Toronto, where she lived with her sister Fleurette. In the 1970's while attending a dance with friends, she met her future husband, Alex. They would marry in 1972 in a quaint ceremony followed by a lively reception amongst good food, good friends and family. A few years later, Anita became the proud mother of two daughters - Tara and Erin. She was a loving and supportive mother, proud of her girls and instilled a strong sense of Christianity, integrity and respect in them.

Into her retirement years, Anita was able to fulfill her lifelong dream of visiting Europe and travelling to England and the US several times. One of her greatest joys was becoming a grandmother. She liked nothing more than spending time watching Lillian, Hazel and Skylar sing and dance; always encouraging them to have as much fun as they could. Anita was a powerful force, leaving a mark with all those that knew her. An intelligent and beautiful sweet soul that will be missed greatly by her family and friends. She will remain in our hearts always. May her soul rest with the Lord in the eternity of His glorious kingdom.
